I’ve heard a few people say they’ve skipped an engagement session. I get why this idea seems to make sense; with so many expenses leading up to a wedding, the excitement and the hubbub, it can seem silly or frivolous to pay for a pre-wedding photo session. I really want to share why this simply isn’t true, and why an engagement session just may be the one you treasure for years to come (and why, if you book your wedding with me, you receive a complementary session!)
Nick and Heidi, pictured below, are gregarious and engaging. They seem to always have a new project in the works, or be traveling somewhere exciting. They love making craft beer, enjoying gourmet pizza creations, and enjoying the heck out of one another. I’ve not met many other couples who truly delight in each other as much as these two…it makes me grin ear-to-ear to be part of their love story.
One of the best things that I’ve started to integrate into all of my wedding offerings, is a complementary engagement session. It allows me to get to know my clients and how they interact with one another, and with the camera in front of them. I often hear people say they don’t like to be photographed, and that they don’t feel photogenic. I love shifting their mindset and helping create an experience that eases nerves and hesitations. An engagement session helps me get to know the couples I work with long before that big day approaches, and helps us work together to earn candid and relaxed images that show them on a day-to-day basis. These images capture the excitement and anticipation of your wedding day, and are generally much more easygoing and stress-free. It’s also fun to have images where you’re not in your wedding finery to give you a little bit of variety in displaying them in albums and around your house. The time when you’re engaged is fleeting and filled with emotions…it is the perfect time to do a session.
[…] The scene was much different than when we photographed their engagement session which has BIG beautiful light but smiles just the sam. I am still wildly in love with these photographs, which can be seen HERE […]
